Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of Expense Tracking - Tally (“Tally”, “we”, “us”, or “the app”). By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please don't use the app.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By using Tally you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. These Terms apply to all users of the app.

2. The service

Tally lets you record expenses and income by typing or scanning receipts, and presents your data as a running balance, budgets, categories, and a monthly statement. Your ledger is stored on your device. Certain features rely on third-party providers as described in these Terms and in the Privacy Policy.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher) to use Tally. By using the app you represent that you meet this requirement and that you can form a binding agreement with us.

4. Accounts & sign-in

Tally requires a free account. You sign in with Google, Apple, or email to use Tally's AI features and, optionally, Cloud Backup. You are responsible for keeping that sign-in credential secure and for activity that occurs under it.

5. Subscriptions & billing

Tally offers an optional paid plan, Tally Pro, which unlocks unlimited AI logging, unlimited receipt scanning, and Cloud Backup. Pro is available as monthly, annual, and lifetime options.

• Purchasing. Subscriptions are sold as in-app purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play and are subject to those stores' terms. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy.
• Payment. Your payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
• Auto-renewal. Monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
• Managing & cancelling. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not retroactively refund the current period.
• Free trials. If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
• Refunds. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. We generally cannot issue refunds directly for store purchases.
• Lifetime plan. A “lifetime” purchase grants Pro features for the lifetime of the app and is a one-time, non-recurring payment.

Free-tier limits (such as the monthly allowance of AI parses and receipt scans) may be adjusted over time. We aim to keep core, manual tracking free.

6. AI features

AI logging and receipt scanning send your text or receipt image to a third-party AI provider (Google's Firebase AI) to extract details, as described in the Privacy Policy. AI output may be inaccurate or incomplete - for example, it may misread an amount, merchant, or category. You are responsible for reviewing and correcting entries before relying on them. You can always edit or recategorize any entry, or log entries manually without AI.

7. Not financial advice

Tally is an informational and organizational tool only. Its summaries, budgets, and suggestions (including the “one thing you could try” insight) are not financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice. The numbers reflect only what you have entered and may not match your bank records. You are solely responsible for your financial decisions and should consult a qualified professional where appropriate.

8. Your data & backups

Your ledger is stored on your device. You are responsible for maintaining your own copies of important data. While Cloud Backup is offered to help you restore data on a new device, we do not guarantee that backups will always be available, complete, or recoverable, and we are not responsible for data loss caused by device failure, deletion, OS behavior, or loss of access to your Google/Apple sign-in. We recommend exporting to CSV periodically.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law;
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code except where permitted by law;
• Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the app or its service providers;
• Abuse, overload, or attempt to circumvent usage limits on AI or other features;
• Use the app to infringe the rights of others or to upload unlawful content.

10. Intellectual property

The app, including its name, logo, design, text, and software, is owned by the developer of Tally and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for your own personal use in accordance with these Terms and the applicable app store's terms. The content you enter remains yours.

11. Third-party services

Tally relies on third-party services - including Google / Firebase (AI parsing, app integrity, configuration, and optional authentication and backup storage), RevenueCat (subscription management), and the Apple App Store and Google Play (distribution and payments). Your use of those features is also subject to the respective providers' terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of these third parties.

12. Availability & changes to the app

We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time, and some features depend on third-party services that may change or become unavailable. We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may release updates that you need to install for the app to keep working properly.

13. Disclaimer of warranties

The app is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that AI results will be accurate, or that data will always be preserved. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.

14. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer of Tally will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or financial loss, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the app - even if advised of the possibility of such damages. To the extent any liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or the minimum permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including your statutory consumer rights.

15. Termination

You may stop using Tally and delete the app at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms or misuse the app. On termination, the licenses granted to you end; sections that by their nature should survive (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply. Deleting the app removes its on-device data; any cloud backup you created persists until you delete it.

16. Governing terms & disputes

These Terms, and your use of the app, are governed by the laws applicable in your country of residence to the extent they grant you mandatory consumer protections, and otherwise by general principles of contract law. Your purchase of any subscription is additionally governed by the terms of the app store through which you bought it. Where required, disputes will be resolved by the courts having jurisdiction at your place of residence. Nothing here removes mandatory rights you have as a consumer.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, note it in the app. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
